Nos últimos anos, as bicicletas têm conquistado um papel significativo na paisagem urbana de Belo Horizonte, à medida que mais pessoas aderem a esse meio de transporte sustentável por motivos de saúde, economia, velocidade e lazer.
A Prefeitura de Belo Horizonte reconheceu essa tendência e desde 2005 tem mantido o programa “Pedala BH”, que busca promover o uso da bicicleta através da construção de infraestrutura cicloviária para garantir a segurança dos ciclistas.
Para garantir que o programa fosse moldado com a contribuição direta dos ciclistas, foi estabelecido o grupo de trabalho GT Pedala BH.
Composto por membros da sociedade civil e entusiastas da mobilidade por bicicleta, o grupo se reúne desde 2012 para debater e sugerir melhorias nas intervenções da prefeitura.
Após um período de reuniões virtuais, o grupo retomou recentemente os encontros presenciais na Superintendência de Mobilidade de Belo Horizonte (Sumob), um local que oferece infraestrutura ciclística para acomodar os participantes de forma confortável e segura.
No primeiro semestre deste ano, a Prefeitura de Belo Horizonte expandiu o Programa Centro de Todo Mundo, que prioriza a mobilidade ativa na área central e arredores.
Como parte deste programa, mais de 8 km de novas ciclovias serão construídas, juntamente com mais de 15 estações de bicicletas compartilhadas, incluindo opções elétricas.
Várias vias importantes da cidade, como a Avenida Augusto de Lima e a Avenida Afonso Pena, serão contempladas com essas novas estruturas, proporcionando mais oportunidades de deslocamento para os ciclistas da capital.
Com essa iniciativa, Belo Horizonte está demonstrando um compromisso claro em promover a mobilidade ativa e sustentável, incentivando os cidadãos a adotarem a bicicleta como meio de transporte diário e contribuindo para a criação de um ambiente urbano mais saudável e acessível a todos.
